              The Squirrel

We have red and grey squirrels in Ireland. They eat nuts, seeds, cones, berries and toadstools. In autumn they hide lots of nuts and seeds to eat in winter and early spring. Their house is a drey high up in a tree.Squirrels might have two litters of babies a year. They are called kittens and cannot see when they are born.

Avondale

We went to Avondale to look for squirrel food. I went in Lisa’s car with Shane, Katy and Sam. The first thing we saw was a beech tree. We got lots of stuff like cones, acorns, sweet chestnuts and conkers. We saw fungi and toadstools and colourful leaves. Ben found a rotten piece of a branch with two little white toadstools on it and it had lots of moss. Sheryl picked lots of big leaves . I found a twig with sweet chestnuts on it and I gave it to Lucinda because I didn’t want it

Little Squirrel

Little squirrel in the tree,
Come and say hello to me,
I will do no harm to you.
Come and say hello to me!

Little squirrel in the tree,
Acrobatic as can be,
Oh so high up in the tree.
Hop on down and see me!

Little squirrel in the tree,
Beautiful as you can be,
Hop on down and talk to me.
Little squirrel in the tree.

In the Oak Wood

In the Oak Wood,
Scurrying up a tree,
There was a red squirrel,
High above me!

He was sprinting,
And I could barely see,
That little red squirrel,
High up in the tree!

Along came another,
Then I could see,
Two little red squirrels,
High above me!

They hopped and glided,
From branch to branch.
Up the tree they ran together,
As they played with one another

Lots of Squirrels

Red squirrels,
Grey squirrels,
And much more.
Flying squirrels,
Climbing squirrels,
Squirrels galore.
Big ones,
Little ones,
Squirrels, squirrels, squirrels
Squirrels all over the world!
