Family Background

This is a picture of Michael Dwyer.
Michael was born in 1772.

His fathers name was John Dwyer and his mother was a Byrne from Cullentra  near Glendalough.

The family lived at the foot of Lugnaquaillia in Camara near the river Slaney.

In 1784 the family moved to live in Eadestown also in the Glen Of Imaal when Michael was 12 years old.

Micheal was the eldest of 4 brothers and 3 sisters. He married Mary Doyle on the 16th of October 1798.

Mary Doyle was from Knockendarragh also in the Glen of Imaal near Donard.

Micheal Dwyer with his wife Mary were deported to Australia. 

He died on the 23rd of August 1825. He is buried  in Waverley Cemetery in Sydney.

This is John. He is in Senior Infants in our school. He lives in Cullentra. When he asked his Grand Uncle about the Byrnes of Cullentra he was told that in the 1850's in Griffith's Valuations there was only one family called Byrnes living in Cullentra. John is a decendant of those Byrnes and we think that Michael Dwyer's mother was related to the same Byrnes.
